Can you believe a 23 year old with a passion since the age of 5 years old...now has two sugar house....a variety of maple products and is still expanding his business!
All it took was one visit to a maple sugar house on a field trip in preschool...Yes, preschool...for this driven child to know that he was going to make syrup. He told his Dad all about this positive experience and his ideas. The very next day the process stated. This father and son created their own homemade evaporator and hug only 13 sap buckets.
In the first year less than one gallon of syrup was made. It may have been a slow start, but it didn't discourage this young boy. Ten years later Ben at the age of 15 won the Maple Producers Carlisle Trophy for the best syrup in New Hampshire!
Ben continues to set goals and hopes to open up a pancake house within the next five years where families and friends can come enjoy his delicious syrup in a cozy setting.
Ben is hard working and wants to ensure customer satisfaction with his business Ben's Sugar Shack.
Ben has partnered with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to help spread knowledge and foster hope in the fight against breast cancer. The National Breast Cancer Foundation’s mission includes increasing awareness through education, providing diagnostic breast care services for those in need, and providing nurturing support services.
This is a cause dear to Ben's heart because some of his immediate family and close friends are breast cancer survivors. Ben will donate $2.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation for every jug sold of his Maple Syrup 1 Quart Jug Special Limited Edition. By joining this cause, you will help provide women with the help for today and hope for tomorrow. "Because life if sweet!" Ben was sweet and sent me a Qt. of his Limited Edition Breast Cancer Foundation Jug of Grade B Maple Syrup to sample and review. He is also going to give one of my very lucky bloggy friends a jug of their own to enjoy!
I couldn't wait to try Ben's Sugar Shack Maple Syrup upon removing the seal from the jug. I was greeted with a soothing maple scent with caramel undertones.
I be honest...I had to look around Ben's site to learn more about Grades of Maple Syrup. Here is what I found....
Grade A is not any better in quality than Grade B. it is just about your personal preference. The darker the syrup, the stronger and more “mapley” the flavor. The clarity and color of maple syrup depends on a variety of factors including weather, length of storage, and methods of processing, including gathering, boiling, and filtering.
Grade A Medium Amber is the most popular grade sold because it is most like the imitation maple-flavored syrup sold in supermarkets. Many people now prefer Grade B for table syrup, which is traditionally used for cooking because it has the strongest maple flavor.
