I am so thrilled to announce I am going to be working with an excellent company located in Northern California to help promote their premium products. I get to share their love for food and passion to take the necessary pain staking steps to make one of the best products out on the market today. This company has been in the Sacramento Valley since 1951. The Pennas own M &CP Farms, 90 acres of olive production, processing and packing.
The Pennas make available the finest California olives at a price that won't blow a grocery budget. They don't just produce premium olives and olive products, but they branch out into pickled vegetables, pickled fruit, and cheese and oil dips.
I feel like I need to do a disclaimer before I continue....This review and giveaway may cause extreme drooling and cravings that only can be satisfied by going out and finding Penna products or ordering them online.
Okay, if you think you are up for it...I am going to be reviewing two of Penna products from their diverse offerings + one lucky winner will have the opportunity to enjoy these two products also.
I am such a garlic lover! I love to add garlic to almost anything. What a perfect marriage, Premium Slow Processed Olives, Hand stuffed with fresh crispy California garlic.
I was amazed at the size of the Olives the Penna's use. They are HUGE, which allows for a large piece of the crunchy garlic to go inside to make a perfect little package that can be enjoyed in one BIG flavorful bite.
I love the contrast of the firm but softer olive and the crisp, crunchy garlic.
The Penna Stuffed Olives are awesome straight out of the jar (Even my 2 year old thinks so). But they are also delicious in a garden fresh salad.
I enjoyed this iceberg lettuce salad yesterday for lunch. It was full of red bell peppers, mini bella Mushrooms, Fresh Kohlrabi greens from my garden (I had to thin my rows out and they add a touch of slight bitterness), grilled chicken, red onion, feta cheese and Penna Garlic Stuffed Olives.
Penna Tapanade...what exactly is "Tapanade". Tapenade's base ingredient is olive. The olives (most commonly black olive) and capers are finely chopped, crushed, or blended. Olive oil is then added until the mixture becomes a paste. Tapanade is often flavored differently in varying regions with other ingredients such as garlic, herbs, anchovies, lemon juice, or brandy.
Penna Tapanade is a balanced combination of olives, extra virgin olive oil, anchovy, garlic and capers. I enjoyed the salty, earthy flavor combination. Tapanade is very versatile. It can be used as a sandwich spread, a sauce for pizza, on crackers, or even to help make a pasta topping.
I decided to try Penna Tapanade incorporated in a pasta dish. I started by boiling pasta, mini bella mushroom and spinach all together in one pot (with a dash of kosher salt for flavor).
After draining all of the liquid, I immediately added Penna Tapanade and stirred it gently into the pasta. I combined a little more virgin olive oil to help the Tapanade incorporate smoothly.
It was delicious! I squeezed a little fresh lemon over my pasta before serving. My husband preferred a little Parmesan cheese on his. This is a definite do again. I wish I could have some how captured the aroma of this simple, but elegant dish and everyone's computer screen could be "scratched and sniffed".
